Today is December 15th, 2021. We are officially 30 days away from the official full opening of the MUSH, and today is our Soft Opening for those of you caring enough to keep up with what is going on here.

The date was reset to the past, right after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the region. +time shows “The current VR time is: 2:39:27pm, Friday, 27th of October, 2006.”.
|
Now to be clear, the use of the tragic events that happened to New Orleans and the area surrounding the metro area is in no way meant to cheapen, nor make light of, the devastation & loss that happened to the region. To this day our hearts and thoughts go out those who lost family members, friends, and loved ones due to Hurricane Katrina, and Rita.

In order to not be caught in having to follow the same Timeline as what we have already lived through, several key elements have been changed to make this an actual World of Darkness storyline.
|
- The entire city was cleared out and completely shut down by the Federal Government until basic utilities could be brought back online.
- The rebuild of the city took two to three times as long as recovery took in real life.
- The Presbytere building next to the St. Louis Cathedral collapsed and was destroyed during Hurricane Rita. A memorial documenting the history of New Orleans has been built in its place.
- The drinking age has been lowered to 18.
- Smoking is allowed in all buildings. There are “Non-Smoking” sections in some bars and restaurants, but not all.
- I’m sure there’s more, but I can’t think of them now.

In Case You Missed It: Updates to Previous Issues
|
Cajun Nights MUSH remains a 2nd Edition original World of Darkness game. To upgrade it to anything else meant recoding most of the systems, which could not easily be done.
|
|
The game will open with only Mortal, Mortal+, CCL, & Voodoo Characters available. Once a decent player base of these Characters is reached, and there is Staff support for the other types of Characters, they will be opened for play in a staggered fashion. This will also (hopefully) preserve OOC Masq for everyone.

|
|
|
A handful of previous Players/Staff, plus some new want-to-be Players, came on board to assist with the rebuild, and that work continues on today. Of course the work never ends, as a MUSH is a living thing itself that needs care and feeding to survive. All this time I have kept it alive and running, albeit very quietly with no stories to tell. The time to change all that is at hand. The game is not 100% ready, but it is ready enough to start inviting Players back to enjoy an all-new storyline.

All Logins will need to read the Player Ethics & Staff Ethics Documents upon arrival, and then are free to go through the Commands Tour as well as the Sphere Information Center Rooms to get a feel for how the game is laid out at this time.

Wednesday December 22, 2021 at 7:30 PM Eastern, Papa Legba will have an open meeting with everyone in #0, the Voodoo Lounge on the MUSH itself, for a Q&A about the game.

Work continues on this labor of love as we prepare to open, and will continue to happen once we are open. We still need Storyteller Staff to be able to move forward and grow the Playerbase. So a slow rebuild is what we are looking to do.
