Cajun Nights MUSH
SPOTLIGHT
Welcome to the first update for 2021. Progress is steadily going forward. This may be the last update in this format as I am looking into a kind of newsletter for the website which should post to the Facebook group automagically, as long as I set it up correctly.

Administration:
Phase 1 is about 90% done. The good news about that is Phase 2 can start working on the items already covered in Phase 1 and begin the clean up. The good news on that is Phase 2 has already started! I'd say probably about 15% done there so far. But... progress!

Build & Code:
Yes, still mapping the grid... I know, I know. But in my defense, the game grew over the years as needed to support the size of the player base. I am using Excel to map it out visually and the edges of the spreadsheet are at 1,000 x 1,000 cells at the moment. Not all are used, mind you, but there's enough in there that is actual rooms and pathways to scare the faint of heart.
Ol'Sarge is ripping through the tasks I have piled up in regards to cleaning up the site and getting the code as rock solid as it can be. I'm going to have to keep on my toes just to make sure he doesn't run out of things to do!
The +case system for the Law Enforcement & Medical Characters has been cleaned up and should be ready. 1 system down, 999 more to go (That may or may not be an exaggeration).
Also, the +queue system has been cleaned up, updated, tested, and is ready for new entries.
Working on the +map to make sure it is up to date.

Media & Website:
As stated above, looking to slowly rebuild the website and add a newsletter kind of plugin to it. If you have any favorites, please let me know.

Storytelling:
Starting to lay down the framework for the backdrop where all the stories will be told. Of course it is New Orleans, LA. That hasn't changed and won't. The over arching story line from staff will be based in New Orleans, with the bayou around it, and some things that have happened in Real Life (tm), but it will rely heavily on the World of Darkness themes and steer away from RL issues.
Final Word
Errata:
Here is a stream of consciousness that probably should be in the Build & Code section, but ended up here...
I'm looking into communication platforms for players & staff alike. I'm not too sure how much any would be used, except the FB integration to the WordPress website, and Discord linked to the in-game comsys as a channel.
My main interest is making staff & individual group (players of a certain part of the game) meetings easier to hold and discuss topics. May or may not be audio, but I was hoping to be able to screen share when showing/teaching game system use.
One thought is that in the past when Team Leaders of a part of the game were holding a meeting with their players, anyone could +who and see the list of people in a particular room with the TL and poof, IC/OOC cover was blown. But then again, I guess that is something we always had to deal with and it was on the Player to not use that OOC information in game.
Come to think of it, TimeStops had the same IC/OOC risk involved, and we did just fine with those too.
Facebook = Messenger & Rooms
Google = Hangouts & Meet
Cisco = WebEx
Discord = Discord
Microsoft = Teams
Zoom = Well, Zoom
o Most people are already on Facebook, so connecting FB with the game website is a thing for ease of posted communications. FB Messenger is clunky and I'm not to sure how well it would work for meetings and other gatherings, especially when dealing with In Character vs Out of Character information, especially if some players have Alts they want to keep separate.

Actually, all of the platforms will have that drawback, now that I think about it.
o Google Hangouts would be difficult to try and structure, though people could make email addresses for their individual characters to avoid the Alt dilemma, but that could get really messy as time went on.
Instead of rambling on about them, I'll leave this post with these questions:
1) Do we need an out of game communication system at all?
2) If we do, which of the above systems do you have a feeling would work best for in-game and out-of-game use?
3) Discord has an available link to the comsys in-game which is in use already on the RhostMUSH Dev site. I think that it is rather cool, but what do you think? It would be a channel, like Public, and could be toggled on and off at Player discretion.

Until anon my friends. Laissez les bon temps rouler!
